We call this a fan arbor,
and isn't it a unique structure?
This arbor was designed
by the architect James A. Johnson who works out of the Del
Mar area. It is 24 feet wide and 25 feet deep, and
11'10" at the highest point.
This is a
clear redwood structure. The 3 beams are all laminated, the longest one being
24',
and the shortest 8' 7".

The posts are
also laminated redwood, and turned to a slight taper. The
Post/Beam connection is a pegged hardwood dowel.
The
posts are set into 36" deep concrete footings whose
tops are slightly sloped above grade. A 4" wide
copper band goes around the post at this vulnerable spot,
protecting it from rot.
